Shikhar Dhawan has announced his retirement from international Cricket 2024.

Team India’s dashing batsman Shikhar Dhawan has announced his retirement from international and domestic cricket.

Dhawan announced his retirement by sharing a video on social media on Saturday (24th).In his video, he has thanked everyone.

Shikhar Dhawan was out of Team India for a long time. There was no hope of his comeback in any format. Shikhar Dhawan last played for the Indian team in the 2022 tour of Bangladesh in the ODI series.

The name Shikhar emerged during the 2004 Under-19 World Cup.  He had scored 505 runs with 3 centuries. When Dhawan first stepped out to play international cricket in 2010, seeing him didn’t seem like it would last long. The stylish look, the twirling of the moustache, the celebration with a loud slap on the thigh after taking a catch… Dhawan then played with the Indian team for almost 12 years.

Shikhar Dhawan played his first ODI for India against Australia in 2010 at Visakhapatnam. Dhawan played his first Test against Australia in Mohali. Since 2013, he has participated in 34 Test matches till now. In 2018, Dhawan got the chance to play in the last Test match.  He scored 2315 runs at an average of 40.61 in the longest format of cricket.  He scored 7 centuries and 5 fifties during this period. Dhawan’s highest score is 190 runs.

4) Most runs in T20 cricket in one year

Shikhar Dhawan holds the record for most runs in T20 cricket in a calendar year. He scored 689 runs in T20 Internationals in one year. Shikhar Dhawan’s record is yet to be broken by any Indian batsman.

5) Fastest innings by a batsman on Test debut

Shikhar Dhawan scored 187 off 174 balls on his Test debut against Australia. It was the fastest innings by any batsman on Test debut.

Dhawan had a good career for India. He scored a lot of runs for the Indian team not only in India but also abroad. He has a record of his name, which no other Indian opener could break.

Shikhar Dhawan is the only opener in the history of Indian cricket, who scored a century in ODIs in SENA countries like South Africa, England, New Zealand and Australia.

Dhawan has scored a century in South Africa. He scored a brilliant century with a bang on South Africa’s bouncy pitch.  He also scored a century in New Zealand.  Dhawan had a special love for England. Shikhar Dhawan is one of the most successful batsmen in the history of the IPL tournament.  He is the second-highest run-scorer after Virat Kohli. Dhawan has scored 6769 runs in 222 IPL matches. He has scored two centuries and 51 fifties during this period. Dhawan has an average of 35.26 and a strike rate of 127.14.

Shikhar Dhawan is the highest run-getter in ICC ODI tournaments. Among players who have scored at least 1000 runs, Dhawan has scored at an average of 65.15. He is also ahead of Virat Kohli who runs at an average of 64.55. Shikhar Dhawan was the highest run-scorer in the 2004 U-19 World Cup and won the Man of the Tournament award. Shikhar Dhawan made his debut for Team India in 2010. He was not part of the 2011 ODI World Cup. However, this was followed by being part of the Champions Trophy-winning team in 2013.

It was always a goal of mine to play for India and it has been achieved for which I am thankful to many people.”
